Is There A Maintenance Free Home Siding?
If there is a maintenance free home siding, I haven't
found it yet. I don't know how many siding manufacturers suggest that
their products are maintenance free, but I don't think they're referring
to maintenance free siding for the rest of your home's life.
I believe the word maintenance free home siding is referring to the
individual pieces of siding, if they were to remain in some type of
protective environment, but this could change, once it's applied to the
building. One of the best examples for this is aluminum and vinyl
siding. They might not require any maintenance at all, but this doesn't
mean that the siding won't fade, crack or get damaged over time.
If you're thinking about purchasing a maintenance free home siding from
a remodeling company or even a siding manufacturer, I would like to
share something with you. This probably isn't going to be something that
they're going to bring up, but you definitely need to know about.
Maintenance free products, might not last as long as you think they
will. Ask these questions to your remodeling contractor or siding
manufacturer, before purchasing the product. How long has the product
then used on homes? Does the product deteriorate over time? Does the
product become brittle? How do I make repairs and will my repairs match
the surrounding siding exactly?
I could go on and on about the questions, but you need to get a little
creative here. I have been in the construction business for over 30
years now and haven't seen one particular home siding that really isn't
maintenance free, the entire life of your home. Some come close, some
give you a false illusion and some don't last long at all.
