Finding the Roof Leak - this could be one of the hardest and biggest problems or any roof repair specialist. Just because water is leaking in one spot, doesn't mean that, the damage is directly above the water damaged ceiling. This isn't necessarily going to be the spot where the roof needs to be repaired.

That's a good area to start with, but keep in mind, that I have seen water leaks travel at least 12 to 15 feet away from their original ceiling damage. Don't ever assume, that just because the water is leaking in one spot, that the damage isn't going to be directly above the area that is being damaged.

Here's one of the most important things that I can tell you about locating typical roof leaks. There is a good chance that the roof damage isn't going to be below this area on the roof, it's going to be above the area where the water is actually leaking onto the ceiling.

Look for any loose or missing shingles, you'll be looking for any cracks or damage shingles. If you can't find any roof damage, or any broken or missing roof shingles, you're going to need to check the areas around any protrusions or pipes that could be sticking out of your roof. These are great spots for water leaks. Examine these areas for any spots where water could be leaking. Again you're going to be looking for any cracks or damage around these pipes or vents protrusions.

You can always examine an area, that isn't leaking, to get a good idea, what you're roofing should look like and then go back to the area where it's leaking, to see if you notice anything different.
