Five Basic Rules To Follow When Pouring Concrete
I have put together five simple rules that can help
anyone who is planning on pouring concrete. It doesn't matter if you're
building a concrete foundation for your home, pouring a sidewalk for
your friends or replacing your driveway. These basic rules will help you
get the job done a little bit easier.
1. Make sure that all of your building forms are secure. It's always
better to have more support for your forms and if you aren't really sure
that you have enough supports, drive a few more stakes in and really
make sure that your forms aren't going anywhere.
2. Double check to make sure that you have every tool that you need to
pour the concrete. If you're going to need a wheelbarrow, it wouldn't be
a bad idea to have a spare wheelbarrow on standby, just in case
something happens to the first one.
3. Make sure that you have enough people to help with the concrete pour.
There's nothing worse than pouring some concrete without enough people
to help you finish it.
4. Do you need a concrete pump? If you're only pouring a couple of yards
of concrete, this might not be a problem. However, if you're pouring
more than three or 4 yards of concrete and the cement truck is going to
be more than 100 feet away from the project, you should seriously
consider hiring the services of a concrete pump.
5. Make sure that you ordered enough concrete. It's never a bad idea to
order a little bit more concrete than you're planning on using. The
worst thing that you could do is start pouring a driveway, only to
realize that you are about 10 wheelbarrows short of concrete.
All of these are very important and you should make sure that you
re-examine this list, before pouring any concrete. Pouring concrete
isn't that difficult, but if you don't have the right tools or it's not
set up properly, you could find yourself in the middle of one of the
worst construction projects of your lifetime. Trust me I've been there.
