Abusive Homeowner Gets Mad At Contractor
Whenever we think of home remodeling or new home
construction, we rarely think of the homeowner taking advantage of the
contractor. It's usually the other way around, but this time the
homeowner got a little carried away with the contractor.
The contractors signed what he believed to be a good contract and the
homeowner was extremely happy as the work started, but the moment that
the contractor found some damage plumbing pipes underneath the house,
the homeowner became abusive and started to yell at the contractor.
The contractor mentioned before the job even started that the homeowner
could have problems with his plumbing and framing. He mentioned that the
wood framing could have termites or water damage and the cast iron pipes
could also be suffering from age. He pointed out that the home was over
75 years old and since he didn't have the ability to see through walls
like Superman could, there could be some extra charges as the work
progressed.
At the time the contractor and the homeowner signed the agreement, this
wasn't a problem but within a week of working on the house, the
homeowner wasn't entirely happy with the contractor, all it took was one
small thing like this to start an argument.
I'm telling you this story, because I would like to make a point. Be
prepared for anything in the construction and remodeling business. I
have seen the nicest and gentlest human beings turn into the most
aggressive individuals, the moment that they think their being taken
advantage of.
This story isn't very different from other stories that I've heard while
working in the construction business. You can please some of the people
some of the time but you're not going to be able to please everyone most
of the time.
